Puma Darts, a dart production company in Katikati approached the Industrial Design faculty at Massey University, Wellington asking the students to design something for them. The brief given to us was extremely broad - as they were interested to see what we would come up with without too much of their input.
Puma Dart's 50th anniversary is coming up in 2020, so to coincide with this I decided to design a novelty collection of darts that would be more ornamental than practical, and would possibly be a gift Puma could give to their most valued customers, or a product that Puma Darts enthusiasts could purchase. The final concept is a set of three darts featuring different animals cast onto the barrel of the dart in a lightweight but quality metal. These are able to be thrown at a dart board for fun but would not produce the same accuracy as that needed in a professional game and therefore are more intended to sit in a case on the mantelpiece. I also developed a puma form for a dart barrel. Made as a very unique, limited edition piece it would use high quality materials (silver, tungsten) and manufacture process - you definitely wouldn't be throwing this one at a dart board! |
