Like the hand scultpure, I added an extra element to my rock-holding sculpture. Right from the start I decided to create some tension and synchronicity between the rock and the form holding it. I chose a particularly jagged, geometric rock to contrast with a smooth, flowy form that I would sculpt myself. I also wanted to play with the idea that these two contrasting objects 'need' each other and so I designed this piece in such a way that the wooden part would not stand up on it's own as it needs the rock to counterbalance it. The rock can be taken out easily as it is only held in by the friction of the two pieces of cork it sits between.
In both of these sculptures I used a twisting/bending motif and embodied in the design a feeling of movement to create a somewhat anthropomorphic quality to the objects. |
