The end result was a block of chocolate which, when broken into its five sections, becomes a set of five individual whistles.
The whistles play one note to start with... but as you start taking bites from the white chocolate end and try again (now blocking the end hole with a finger) the pitch changes - becoming higher and higher until eventually either: a) the chocolate is all gone, or, b) your breath melts the chocolate and the whistle function is lost - it's time to eat the chocolate! The main aim in this project was to create something ridiculous and fun that all ages can enjoy. |
The final product was achieved through a complex process starting with making a working whistle from dowelling and PVC pipe from which multiple internal silicone casts were taken for the inner segments of the final mold.
The external form was created in Autodesk Inventor and fabricated in wax by CNC milling. A silicone negative was then taken from this, plaster reproductions made and pieced together to make the form that the final silicone exterior mold was taken from. The white chocolate was then added by inserting the molded chocolate into a second mold. The chocolate is then ready to be packaged! |
